Vardell is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of the Washington County Board of REALTORS®. This trade organization consists of over 2200 licensed real estate agents and numerous representatives from related businesses. The local board is also associated with the Utah Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. Combined, these three Associations truly represent the voice for real estate in all aspects of the real estate industry with 1.4 million voices strong. Vardell served as the Chairman of the Utah Association of REALTORS® Executive Officer Committee in 2002, 2006, and again in 2009.

Vardell, in addition to his duties and responsibilities with the local REALTOR® Board, has also been involved with the community in many other capacities.  Vardell served on the Board of Directors for the St.George Area Chamber of Commerce from 1991 through 1997 and served as Chairman of the Board in 1996.  Additionally, Vardell was part of the initial organizing group responsible for bringing the United Way to Southern Utah. He served as Chairman of the Board for United Way Dixie in 1996. He also served as a County Commission appointed board member on the Habitat Conservation Advisory Committee from 2001-2005.

Involvement in local service clubs has also been a part of his commitment to the area. Vardell served as President of the Breakfast Exchange Club in 1992, President of the Rotary Club of Dixie Sunrise in 2000-2001, and President of the Dixie Sunshiner’s in 2000. Additionally, he served as the Leadership Dixie Chairman of the Board in 2002-2003. Vardell served as a volunteer for three weeks during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in the Command Center. Also, Vardell served as the President of the Rotary Bowl Association from 2002-2004. Vardell served as the Chairman of the Foundation of Dixie Regional Medical Center as well as having been appointed by Intermountain Health Care to serve as a Trustee on the Governing Board for Dixie Regional Medical Center from 2003-2014. Vardell was also one of the founding Trustees and served as the first Chairman of the Board for the Leadership Academy, a program modeled after Leadership Dixie but designed for area high school students. A graduate of the Duke University Program in Nonprofit Management, Vardell has also been recognized as the St.George Area Chamber of Commerce Business Volunteer of the Year in 1997, was the recipient of the President’s Award from the Utah Association of REALTORS® in 1997 and again in 2016 (only person to ever be recognized twice), and received national recognition for having achieved the REALTOR® Certified Executive Designation from the National Association of REALTORS® as well as the NAR sponsored ePro Designation and the Commitment to Excellence (C2EX) Designation.  Vardell was appointed by the Mayor and City Council to serve on the St.George Planning Commission in 2020 and then appointed again to serve on the City Council in 2021.
