Second Breakout – Southern Utah’s Tech Pipeline

If you have paid attention to anything technology related at DSU in the last few years, it’s possible you’ve heard the term “Tech Talent Pipeline”. It is also possible you passed it off as techie jargon that didn’t interest you, or you had no idea what it meant. What in the world does it mean? Why is it important to know?  In a nutshell, it’s all about getting kids and youth involved and interested in technology at a much younger age so that more kids/youth — boys AND girls — will want to pursue careers in technology to meet the ever-growing demands of the private sector and the ever-changing world in which we live. Plain and simple, southern Utah’s technology sector needs tech talent to grow and build the economy.  This presentation will cover analytics of the tech talent pipeline, tech talent pipeline opportunities, tech talent pipeline challenges, and new opportunities to get involved in southern Utah’s tech talent pipeline.

Second Breakout – Zion National Park Panel Discussion

Washington County is the gateway to Zion National Park. The Park is our largest travel and tourism draw and is an economic anchor for our county. Park visitation infuses more than $250 million into the local economy annually, and the Park continues to grow in popularity with tourist from all over the world. Zion Park saw just over 2.5 million visitors in 2010. This year we saw over 4.5 million visitors. The impact on the Park, regional roads, the economy and on the overall visitor experience is enormous. Local, state, and federal leaders are currently reviewing the issues of overcrowding and congestion, and are proposing solutions to alleviate these concerns. How will access for locals and visitors to the park be affected? What will proposed changes mean for Washington County businesses? What projects, programs, and limitations are being proposed to UDOT to alleviate congestion? What can you do to help?
